Sometimes, I Design Costumes.

One: I did finish the Killjoys masks. Pictures have been long overdue.

Two: I finally figured out what Girl Automatic wears most often! Not only that, but also what she wears when she’s having what I’ve come to call a “Maestro moment”. Yeah. Anyway. Time for some sketches!

This one here is the day-to-day outfit. Please ignore that I colored the wig green when it says “teal” next to it. The wig actually looks like this:

And I actually have to cut a bit off from the falls, because they reach the floor. (Note to self: Measure from crown to waist next time.) The wig, if you’re interested, is from Hello Cosplay. Shipping included, it came out to just over $70USD, but it’s totally worth it. The hair feels and moves like real hair, it’s not heavy (even with the clip-ins), and they’ve got a great selection.

Right. So the sketch up there is the day-to-day. Really hoping I can fit fabric into my budget next month and sew the skirt and vest myself, because a)I found some great tutorials on the subject and b)making the vest and skirt myself means I get to add a little personality to it. Plus, it gives me an excuse to use my sewing machine! Enough said.

I’m hoping to have this done by next month. Mizuumi Con is coming up and I really wanna go to that, see how it holds up, and then make any minor fixes before the My Chemical Romance show in Houston in May. Exciting!

This, I’d initially wanted to prep and wear for Mizuumi Con! It’s the Maestro look that Girl Automatic runs around in while running The Devil’s Orchestra. Having used NaNoWriMo last year to flesh out how she resumes the Orchestra and having started some scenes for a play involving it, I’m pretty much convinced that being the Maestro brings out a kind of…malevolent insanity she doesn’t have or display when she’s just running the Station of Creation. “Malevolent” isn’t really the word I want to use, but there’s definitely a split between her friendlier radio pirate persona and the Maestro, who in my head tends to waver between stoic control and artistically manic.

Characters. You gotta love ‘em.

I think the next thing on my list as far as these costumes go would be deciding makeup. The day-to-day makeup is pretty easy–I actually meant to start playing with it today–in that I think I’m going to go with outrageously vibrant pinks and purples, but the Maestro is a little trickier. Hmm…
